Throwback Thursday

I should probably just stick with the theme of the week and talk about what was big in 2015. I'm going to stick with the upbeat stuff. We all know that the world as a whole was pretty depressing in 2015. To much war and negativity to last a lifetime.

Diet and Health
2015 was a year to focus on eliminating GMO's and sugar. I personally became aware of the Whole30 lifestyle which is all about getting rid of processed food. This article talks more about the other trends.

Star Trek
Trekies lose an Idol. Leonard Nimoy passed away. Mr. Spock was a beloved character for many who watched the show.

Late Night TV
David Letterman had his last show. After being on the air for 33 years! That's a long time to be in front of the camera entertaining america. I personally loved watching him...when I could stay awake.

I personally was shocked by this one. Apparently Amazon was found to be paying people for good reviews. I always check the reviews before buying something and now I feel like I can't trust anyone, let alone Amazon.

I have to add this one because my hubby is a Patriots fan. Aaron Hernandez was convicted of murder. What a crazy story. Then of course you have deflate gate with the winning of a game due to under inflated footballs. It's been a tough year to be a Patriots fan.

The 2 big ones I think were the book adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey. The uproar about those was big and of course the new Star Wars movie was a must see this Christmas season. I don't go to see many movies. I like to wait till it's on DVD so if it's horrible I can just shut it off instead of walking out after paying 12$ 

2015 saw the rise of the streaming service called Netflix. Why pay an outrageous cable or satellite bill when you can binge watch all your favorite shows. I personally had my hubby shut off our Dish service and tried just having Netflix and antenna TV. Yea it didn't work because we couldn't pull in a signal and the hubby wasn't about to go without his football.  

There are so many wonderful things that happened in 2015 that I can't even begin to list. I found this fun article that goes over many more.

Trending Tuesday

I thought that with the coming New Year I would touch on what is some of the new trends you might see.

Bullet Journaling

Now this has been around for a long time but has started to really catch on. You can find the tutorial video here. It is a quick walk through of the basics. I had to watch this video many times to understand it, even then I wasn't sure that it would be something I would like. 
There are many groups on FB and lots of boards on Pinterest where you can see how others have adapted this basic layout and changed it.
That is what got me to take it on for the new year. I am an organized person by nature so a way to be creative and organized is a win win for  me.
I suggest that you check out theses boards to get an idea on how to customize. gentwenty, tinyrayofsunshine and bohoberry. I follow them so when they post fun new stuff I can check it out.

Hand Lettering

I have always thought that penmanship was another way to put your best you forward. I try to have pretty handwriting, even if nobody sees it. So when I came across hand lettering I was hooked! It is so neat to think that I could write like the words you see in professional pictures.
Chalk Ink markers  is what started me on my way with wanting to hand letter EVERYTHING!
This is also something that is blowing up, search it on Instagram and Youtube and you will be taken to wonderful tutorials of how you to can write pretty. I have always loved cursive so it has kind of been easier to pick up for me. I of course think it looks ugly but oh well.

Wearable fitness trackers

I have a love hate relationship with my Fitbit! I have heard that wearable fitness trackers will be a big thing in 2016. In my search for something to replace my Fitbit, I believe that to be true.
Back a few years you had a limited choice of ways to track your fitness. Now every company out there is trying to cash in on new technology. I found this article that helps explain things way better than I can. consumer is a good starting point if you know nothing about a fitness tracker. I have fallen for a few of those Groupon deals and tried other trackers, to no avail. I will keep my Fitbit until I find something else I like.

Motivation Monday

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas time. Now it's on to New years resolutions. Goals or habits I think is what I'm going to call them instead.
 I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what I want to accomplish most and making a plan to do it.

I want to get fit! How will I go about reaching that goal?
I am going to change up my workout routine for one. I was getting up @ 4:15am and trying to get it all in before 6am.
Not going to work anymore. So I am getting up @5am and spending an hr doing weights, then when Abby leaves @4:15pm I will do my cardio. I need to start with a minimum of 5 miles a day.
I am doing this because the hubby and I are planning a hike up Pikes Peak in May!!

My workout today was: Skinnymom weight loss

I want to read the Harry Potter series.
I have heard this is a good read. When my daughter had the books it wasn't something that I would've thought, but I have seen a lot of adults who say it should be done. I went to Half-Price Books and picked up the first 2.
I will be reading other stuff also.

I want to do Keto/Atkins.
I was going to do another round of Whole30 but I didn't really see any results the last round. I did Atkins years ago and loved my results. I want to try a new recipe each week. I'm sure I will be sticking to the basics until I get use to it.

That's it for now. I didn't want to take on to many so as not to fail. I have other little hobbies I want to take up but not sure that that will happen right away. What kind of resolutions do you have?

I LOVE music. Music is something that can change the mood of the day. It can take a crappy attitude and make it positive. It lifts my spirits, if it is the right song. I have never been a person that only listens to a certain type of music. I can enjoy a good song wither it be country, jazz or pop.  Music is the only way I can make through my 4 am workouts!

Where do I want to be in 10yrs?

Where do I want to be in 10 years?

That is the question of the day.

My husband and I try to be fly by the seat of our pants people. We don't make a lot of plans, yet I have to be planning weeks ahead for my blog, workouts and meals.

So I guess I am a planner.

In 10 years I know for sure I would like to be at my ideal weight and be healthy. It may take me 10 years to get there, but I really hope not. I am going to focus this year on chipping away at it.

I would also like to be moved away. We would like to retire in AZ but we have 20 years before we can do that. I would just like to get out of this stupid house(the ex picked out) and out of the city. We would like to not have neighbors.

Being a grandmother would also be pretty awesome, but I don't know that that will ever be in my cards. My daughter hates kids, my son isn't really a big fan either. What's a mom to do but pray!

Those are my 3 top wants. I have more little ones that I plan to achieve in the next year.

Fitness Friday

Today on my list for the blog challenge is, "what I am afraid of." I'm most afraid of heights!! Can't stand going high but have done many things to try and get over it. I climbed Devil's Bridge in Sedona, AZ. That was crazy!

How about since it's Friday I share what I accomplished this week, workout wise.

Sucked! My basement flooded so I had to dry my gym out before I could use it. I did get my steps in for the day but that was it.

I was so not feeling my alarm @4 am so I slept till 6 and got my Jillian Michaels done when Abby got here. I did Shred 1 and a 15min tabata. Then we danced around for about an hour and got my steps in.

Today I moved up to the level 2 of Jillian Michaels shred. It was for sure harder than level 1. Then I got a half hour on the treadmill. I managed to go 10 mins on 8 incline. I'm working my way up. I walked on the treadmill later watching Survivor, to finish getting my steps in.

We will just call this day a wash!! I hurt my back on Tuesday and when I got up I just couldn't do it. I thought I would get it in when Abby got here, but my hubby got up and took over the TV so all my motivation was gone. I did not get my steps in either.

Back at it! I decided to do a different video than what was on my list. I did one of Jillian Michaels Biggest Loser videos. I only did half. Then I did 15 mins on the elliptical and 12 minutes on the bike. Plus I threw in a little weights for good measure.

I weighed myself this morning and am up 2lbs. Not happy but I am going to attribute that to muscle instead of fat. I was able to do 12 normal push-ups! I normally have to drop down to my knees. I have been looking at the Fitness Blender workouts for January.

Sesame Street

Half way through the month and my blog challenge. It has given me more time to focus on what I want to be posting come the new year.
Yesterday was, favorite childhood book. I am sort of a book nerd. I use to hate reading, but as an adult I just love a good book that sucks you in to the point you are up all night trying to finish. I need to make more time for it.

I was obsessed with this book as a child. I just loved the simplicity of it. It was such a cute little story that I could read over and over again. I kept the book and gave it to my daughter. I would read it to all the daycare kids. I still have the same book since my daughter moved out and now I read it to my cousins baby when she's being crazy. It is a little torn up and could use some tape, but mostly it is in good condition for a book that's over 30 years old.

Todays topic is My dream job.

My dream job would have to be a guide of some kind. I want to live in Arizona and we plan on retiring there. We just can't go until then. I would love to be a travel guide, like hiking or kayaking. Some sort of job that I could be outside as much as possible doing something I LOVE. Don't get me wrong, I love kids and being able to stay home with my hubby and still be an influence in a young life, is great.

A day in the life...

So, today is a timeline of my day. This should be interesting, it seems more busy in my head than it actually is, I'm sure.

Alarm goes off @ 4:10am  and it's all downhill from there, haha
4:30 - 6   Workout
6-6:45   Chill out with a coffee, check my horoscope
6:45-7   Abby arrives, both barrels blazen
7-8    Feed all the animals (including Abby)
8-9    Dance around and clean (vacuum every day) could be naptime, depending
9-11   Either go for a walk or run errands
There are days when Abby is not in the mood to do much so we just stay at home and do whatever it is that works
11-1:30   Usually nap time when she doesn't get a morning one and lunch time for the hubby. It's the only time I get to spend with him so we tend to catch up on shows on the DVR and talk. If Abby is awake she's trying to get all his attention. She loves chasing around the dogs too
1:30pm    Hubby leaves for work
2:00   Could be a naptime, depending on if she napped in the morning. Sometimes Abby stays up all day and this is when she crashes
If it's not naptime then on comes the music and we dance around and play with the dogs.
3-6     We read and do our Spanish. Who couldn't use some food about now. Abby loves Ellen so I usually turn it on in the background. Her toys are in another side of the house so we spend a lot of time going back and forth because I'm usually in the family room
6pm       Abby is usually gone by now, depending on the day
Nothing much happens after Abby leaves. I'll do dinner and work on my blog, but by 8:30 I'm spent!

Well like I said, not that interesting, but being in it seems more chaotic.

What's in your bag?

Todays topic is what I have in my handbag so I figured here's an opportunity to talk about what we should carry around in case of emergency.

I'll be honest, I don't carry a purse/handbag. I use to carry one that was so heavy that it hurt my back. It wasn't worth it. Now I leave the house with whatever fits in my pockets.
I do have a purse for times I don't have pockets.

What is in it?

Nail file
Hand sanitizer
Body spray
Hydrocortazone (I'm allergic)
Nail clippers

That's what's in a make-up bag. I have my wallet and a reusable bag thrown in my purse too.
I also have a bug out bag in my closet that I throw in my car when we go on road trips.

matches/lighter (even if you don't smoke)
Bobby pins/hair tye
Phone charger
Dental stuff (they make disposable brushes)
Small flashlight
Some sort of snack

That's what I would suggest keeping in your bag and stuff I have in my bug out bag. I found this fun little homemade survival-kit. I'm thinking I need to make one of these...or 2.

I almost forgot that yesterdays blog topic was my favorite quote and I find this fitting. 
The biggest lie I tell myself is, "I don't have to write it down, I'll remember it"

If I won the lottery

OK, so my blog challenge for today is my most proud moment and that is for sure the birth of my daughter. Hands down most proud. And tomorrows is if I won the lottery. I of course would do lots of donating and paying for family's bills. 

I have worked out so hard this week that I wanted to share that instead of talking about what I'd do with lottery money that will never happen.

I started my Jillian Michaels inspired 30 day workout. It's a combination I found here. I din't order the DVD's so thankfully this rotation is all available on Youtube.


I got up @6 to get my first workout in.
I did the 30 day shred, level 1 and 15 minutes on the elliptical.
I got my steps in but for the life of me I can't remember how. I need to start writing these things down!


I got up @410 to get done before Abby got here.
I did 30 day shred, level 1 and then I danced around my house for an hour. I know that probably sounds weird but I turned on Spotify and Abby was so happy, that I just was like running in place to the music and dancing around. I got 14,ooo steps in.


Up @410
I did No more trouble zones for 50 mins and 10 mins on the elliptical.
It was a nice day so I went and walked for 3 1/2 miles. Got my steps in.

Back to the 30 day shred, level 1 (which was easier today)
I got on the stationary bike for 10 mins and I went for a half hour walk around the lake.


I can't wait till tomorrow and not getting up @410!
Jillian Michaels Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism, 55 minutes kicked my butt! That's a hard one to be happy to do.

Celeb crush

My first celebrity crush....

This is an interesting topic. I did not have to think about it at all. It has always been the same person.

John Cusack

I have had a thing for John Cusack for a long time. He sure is  hansom and a good actor. He really can play a role and make you believe he is that person. These are my top 5 favorite movies that he has stared in and it was REALLY hard to narrow it down to only 5! You can find all sorts of fun facts on wikipedia.

1. Say Anything

This is where it started! I totally fell in love with Loyd Dobler. I mean who doesn't want their man to love them that much. I was hooked.

2. Pushing Tin

This movie is funny and the banter between John and Billy Bob Thorton just works well. I myself have been in that same situation in my marriage so I could relate.

3. High Fidelity

This movie was fun to watch because who wouldn't want to work at a record store and the 2 skateboarding shoplifters is just comedy. I felt bad for his poor luck with women but it made for a good movie.

4. Must Love Dogs

I had to own this movie because I watched it so much. Such a cute romantic role. He does romantic roles very well. And I love me some dogs. 

5. Raven

I in no way like poetry or Edgar Allen Poe but I went to see this movie just because John was in it. I was impressed. I didn't know that it was fictional because I didn't know anything about the poets life. It seemed real enough. Worth watching no matter what the critics say.

Like I said, there are way more than 5 favorites but I don't wanna make some crazy long list and look like a stalker.

Let's talk tattoos

Today is an easy share. I get to talk about my tattoos and piercings, plus show and old photo of me. I think I was better looking when I was younger, as I age I think I look to much like my mother...yikes!

So I'll start with tattoos. I would take pictures but I have to many for that.

My pride and joy is my back piece. It is a train across the lower back and it has my family name in it. It was done as a memorial to my Pappy. He was train engineer. Which is funny because so is my hubby.

Let's see, I have a sun and moon on opposite ankles, for my day and night moods. Those are small but they hurt because of where they are. It started as cover up I don't remember it has been so long.

I have just a small Asian symbol for Harmony on my hand, also a cover up, but that was a scar.

The back of my neck I have my zodiac symbol. Capricorn. It was a bleeder and kind of painful. It's covered by my hair most of the time. I just felt I needed it. My friend was in the shop getting something so I figured why not.

One shoulder has a Grateful Dead bear. It was a cover up of Dizzy Devil. A very poor rendition at that. The bear is green. I went through a faze where I collected Grateful Dead stuff.

My other shoulder has the back of an angel. It's a cover up of my daughters fathers name. It has brown hair like my daughter and I got it when she was little so it's kind of another tattoo for her. Both shoulders were kind of painful but better than my neck and ankles.

Oh and I can't forget the small "tramp stamp" I got at a concert. It was all the rage to get tattoos in the center of your lower back but I was by no means a tramp. It's just a heart and really poorly done, but what do I expect when you got to a concert and walk away with a tattoo.

Well that's it for tattoos. 8 in all. All but the tramp stamp were done by the same person. He did a wonderful job covering up all the mistakes I made before I found him. I would love to add one more as a memorial for my Grammy but my artist moved away and I have control issues. One day hopefully.

Piercings, I have the standard ones in my ear that I wear every once in awhile. I also have 13 more holes in my ears but I don't wear earrings in them any more so I'm sure most have closed up. As a teen I would just pierce my ears for fun.
I once had my belly button the state fair, guess what, it got infected! Yea don't get something like that done at a fair. 
Oh and I have my nose pierced. It has been done so long it's like I forget that it's there.

Now here is my old picture. It is of me and my daughter when she was almost 2. It is by far my favorite picture ever done of us, and she's 22 now.
I wish my hair still looked like that, haha

Personal Traits

3 traits I'm proud of...

That is the challenge for today. Share 3 traits I'm proud of. I really am starting to rethink this 31 day blog challenge because I do not talk about myself very kindly nor do I like sharing it with others. I guess it is a learning experience!

OK so trait #1


I like to think that I am generous to a fault. I would rather give than receive and will do it when ever I get the chance. I like to tip big, donate often and my tithe is usually more than 10%. I'm not sure why I am this way. I don't remember growing up and seeing that as an example in my household or from the people around me. It just makes me happy when others are happy.

I will admit that I use to not care what others were going through. I was self centered. I had it thrown in my face quit often, but I am not that way anymore. I will remind myself when someone around me is having a bad day or takes something out on me, that maybe they are not meaning the things they are saying. I have acted a fool in my past so I can have that perspective now.

This one I am most proud of. I care for everyone around me. I don't even know how really to express that I am caring. I would give someone the shirt off my back if they needed it. I wish I acted upon this more often but I am an introvert who has anxiety so going out into the world to dive into helping is often to scary. My heart is in the right place.

So those are my traits, but since I don't blog on the weekends, Yesterdays was my 10 favorite food.

I use to be a very picky eater! I only would eat certain things but as I grew up my taste buds changed. Then I did a Whole30 and could only eat certain foods. I had to do a lot of cooking and finding new ways to make things healthy so my tastes have changed, except for the fact that I could eat pizza every day.

Fitness Friday

Today is suppose to be, my earliest childhood memory. I have to be honest with you, I don't really remember much from my childhood. I had a concussion when I was younger and also, I did a lot of drugs and drinking when I was younger, so my memory has greatly been affected.  
Plus I couldn't come up with anything that wasn't very depressing and why on earth would I do that to my readers!

Instead I'm going to recount my weeks fitness effort. That's funner than silly old me and my drama.


MONDAY: So I started doing the 4 week challenge. Today was HITT to be FIIT and man was it hard. I had hoped that I would be able to do all my workouts in my gym but my wifi wouldn't reach for my laptop to get a signal. I had to end up dragging my weights up stairs to do it, then 15 minutes on my elliptical and 15 minutes on the treadmill.

TUESDAY:  wifi fixed!! Slim and Sculpted arms was the workout today. I can't do the heavy weights that she does but my arms were burning when I was done. I decided that in the afternoon to get a little energy I would do a quick Tabata of different things. 30 minutes on the treadmill.

WEDNESDAY: I had a lot of trouble with this one. 10 minute tighter waist. I do not have very good balance and having to be on my elbows, backwards, was to much for me. I used my stability ball and ab chair instead then did 3 miles on the treadmill.
In the afternoon I did my Tabata. Which was mostly leg moves.

THURSDAY: When I took my laptop downstairs and for some reason the video wouldn't load...which I think was a sign that I was not to do this challenge anymore. I honestly wasn't feeling it. There is no background music and I really NEED music to workout. I went through my saved workouts and found this one. WOW! I am so feeling it.  Then I did a 30 minutes on the treadmill but also went for a nice 40 minute walk outside in the afternoon.

FRIDAY: I didn't want to hurt myself so I slept in and just got a nice 4 mile walk, outside.
I have been having some issues with my old injuries flaring up. I have decided that since I did the Whole30 I'm going to eliminate a few more things from my diet to see if I can reduce my inflammation.
It is really hard to get a good workout in when you can barely bend over or walk without limping.

So since I have given up on the 4 week tone up challenge I will have to either find another one or go back to just finding a different workout every day. I'll work on that this weekend.

Meaning of my name

What is the meaning of my blog name?

Benders Balancing Act

For starters, my husbands last name is Bender so it is my tribute to him. I chose to keep my maiden name with this marriage. It is a lot of work to change all your information once you have a name change. My hubby was OK with it so what was the harm and I have a sister-in-law also named Lisa.

The balancing act part is just how I feel. I wear so many hats and am into trying new things on top of my daily responsibilities.

Normal everyday....

I am a SAHW so my day does include taking care of my hubby. Making sure that he is happy when he leaves for work and that he has been fed. Just like a child!

I also take care of my cousins baby during the day. She is 9 months old and into everything. She is so much fun and overwhelming at the same time. My hubby and I really wanted kids when we first got married but she has helped us to not feel bad that we can't have kids.

This one may sound crazy but I am a SAHDM. (Stay at home dog mom) My dogs are spoiled rotten and they know it. We rescued a husky from a parking lot 4years ago and he is just like a child. He gets jealous of the baby often and if I don't make up for it at the end of the day he will retaliate! 

I am kind of OCD and have to try and stay on top of all the dog hair that lines my baseboards. My house is way bigger than I need and keeping it clean is more work than it should be. (One of the many reasons I want to move) 

Extras I try to do....

Well for starters is this blog. I thought it would be fun to have a place where I could go to share my lessons on things. I am not doing it for profit, it's just for joy.

Then of course I am always trying some new sort of workout. This month is Bender Fitness challenge. It is so fun that I found someone who puts together and shares her workouts and her last name is the same as my hubby's!

I also wanted to do some homemade gifts for Christmas. Yea, I only have one done and haven't even started on my decorations I wanted to make. At least I don't have a tree to put up this year.

I am trying my hand at better and more creative pictures so I am going to do an Instagram picture of the day December. So it is holiday based. Should be fun I think! If you want to follow along here is my

Ok, here it goes. Day one is introduction and I will do day 2 which is 20 facts about me.

  4. I am the youngest child of my mother
  5. and the middle child of my father.
  6. I was born a blond but dye my hair ALL the time.
  7. Married for the third and last time.
  8. I have one child, who is 22! Oh that's right I didn't tell you how old I am.
  9. I do have 2 step children, that I never see.
  10. I did not graduate from high school but have a GED.
  11. My vehicle of choice is an SUV.
  12. I have 3 dogs, one which I rescued from a parking lot 
  13. and a Chinese Water Dragon named Gallum.
  14. I am self husbands choice.
  15. My favorite color is purple.
  16. I prefer to listen to hip hop, especially when working out.
  17. My favorite food hands down is PIZZA!!
  18. I didn't start eating vegetables until about 4 years ago.
  19. I HATE snakes
  20. and am afraid of heights.

That's me in a nutshell. I had to think awhile on this list because I am not a very complex or diverse person who has done lots of adventuresome things with her life so far.
 I know they say that you should be yourself with your blog, try to make a connection with your readers. I am not so sure I accomplished that here with this one. If there is any of these facts that you would like elaborated on, I would gladly do that.

I thought that since it's the end of the month I would recap my month of the marriage challenge.
I already posted about it once. I will admit that after a couple weeks it didn't seem like a priority so we did not go out of our way to follow it.

Plan a date night: We don't ever go out on dates per say. We don't have any friends or lives for that matter so we do everything together. No need for a special date night if we do everything together already. I can see where it might be a good idea for people who don't get to see each other often.

Tell them you're glad you married them: I make sure to tell my husband how happy I am that we decided to get married. I accidentally called my husband by my ex's name and was mortified! I explained that there is no way I would want to give up my marriage to him. Talk about an embarrassing moment.

Pray for wisdom:  If you are having an issue with your marriage, things can be stressful and what better way to vent than to give it to God. I always make sure to pray for my husband every night.

Thank them: It always feels good to be thanked for doing something for someone else. The acknowledgment of your actions makes you feel good. Make sure that even if you have a hard time finding something to be thankful for, make it anything even something little.

Laugh with them: They say laughter is the best medicine. It is so true. My husband and I laugh all the time. Some times we will just laugh and laugh for minutes at a time. If it's hard to find something to laugh at, make an attempt to be funny, tell a joke or find a funny video to share.

Forgive: I can tell you that forgiveness is so good for the soul. I am not saying that you will be able to forget but if you want to be able to move on you have to honestly forgive and move forward. I haven't had to forgive much in this relationship but I know that it is wonderful advice.

Ask for their opinion: I am always asking my husbands opinion on hings. Mostly on household stuff. Everyone wants to feel that their opinion is important. I know that my husband came from a relationship that he was never involved in anything so I try to do the opposite.

Encourage them: Do not make your relationship all about you. It is important to think of the other person and give them encouragement for whatever reason. If they want to reach for some goal then you should stand by them and help in any way. It will only put a wedge between you if you become negative about whatever it is.

Admire them: I know that it can be hard to find something to admire about someone if there trouble. It will help you find your way back to loving them if you can admire them. Even if it starts off with just something little. I admire my husband for his strong work ethic! It makes me love him more.

Last but not least: LOVE THEM
This one can be easier said than done some days but if you just hold on to whatever it is that made you fall in love with them there is always hope.

I hope that if you are having some struggles in your marriage that you take the time to put some work into it and try to save it. I understand that that is not always doable but at least give it a try.

taking the easy way

I was planning my blogs for the month of December and since I am done with my Whole30 I couldn't figure out what I wanted to share. Since I haven't really found my nieche yet. I consider this a lifestyle blog but I could be wrong. So I kind of took the easy way out and decided to do a couple challenges.

31 day blog challenge

I found a challenge I can do that has me sharing something personal every day of the month.
There are so many of these challenges out there to choose from. I couldn't get the link to work but this is a picture of it.

I also found an inspirational journal 30 day challenge. I use to be really good at taking time to journal but I have fallen away from it, so this will help me get back into the habit. I remember a time that journaling saved my sanity. I wish I would have saved them to go back to revisit the craziness. 

I am also working on myself. I posted about my workout challenge. I think this will be harder than sharing myself on my blog. I am wanting to get in better shape for the new year.

There are also lots of 31 day picture challenges to choose from. I might do that also. I love a good photo and to have an excuse to be taking pictures of random stuff sounds fun. Has anyone done one of the picture challenges? Was it fun? Here are some examples.

How I survived a Whole30, twice

Mission Accomplished!!

Whole30 challenge, round 2 in the books. It was my second attempt at a round 2. The first time I failed after a week. I just didn't have it in me and if you don't fully commit in your mind, then you are doomed from the start.

My first Whole30 was extreme fatigue and withdraws. I had put on 20 lbs in the 3 years I had been with my hubby and it was some serious cookie addition going on. So that was the reason for my carb flu. Who knew there was such a thing. I had no way to deal with it. I just suffered through.

Tip 1.
If you start to suffer from the carb flu, First: take a deep breath and know that this to shall pass. Second: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I didn't follow this the first round because I hated water so I was having a problem with the transition, but by round two I was a water pro and made sure to have plenty. For me the first time I had "Sparkling"  water I was like, WTH is this crazy stuff! It's trying to be pop, but it's NOT. 
Water helps with the headaches.

Tip 2.
Find your reason for doing this challenge because they use the word challenge for a reason. You will find this as a common tip for a reason, because it's true! If you have to, write it down every where. I made fun quotes to post all over my house. Put them on your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, the computer screen and your closet. Any where were you spend time looking at things have a fun post- it for motivation. I changed mine out every week.

Tip 3.
This is another one you will hear A LOT! Preparation is a MUST. You need to take the time to sit down on like a Wednesday, or whatever day during the week that works for you, and make a menu. 
If you have your menu ready, then you have a grocery list and go shopping on a Friday or Saturday. Then you are ready for prep day on Sunday. 
I usually start my Whole30 on a Sunday. I do my first week on Saturday so that I can have a chill first day. The other 3 weeks it's on a Sunday. 
Those days may not work for everyone but the prep is a must. If you don't have at least 2 options in the fridge to just throw in the oven, on the stove or in the will most likely cave for something easy and most likely processed.

Tip 4.
Have support. I din't have anyone doing it with me but my hubby was supportive and ate whatever it was that I was eating while he was home. It would've been funner I think to have someone doing it with me so they can understand the ups and downs. 
Someone who you can share recipes with and maybe even take turns doing prep meals. I wish I had that. Cooking and cleaning 24/7/30 gets to be a lot for just one person.
 I know that it's common place for some people, but I started this journey as a microwave queen. Pull the box out of the freezer and wallah your done. That doesn't happen with this challenge. 

Tip 5.
Learn to forgive, YOURSELF! You will feel like giving up and have some negative thoughts. Just let it go and move on. You will think "is this really worth it" I am hear to say YES. 
I didn't have any of the typical NSV lots of people talk about, like clear skin, better energy and lose clothes, but that's OK. I tried to remember it was my journey and not anyone else's. If you loose weight than great, if you don't, that's still great. You just made it 30 days training your body to not need unhealthy foods and that's a BIG deal. You should be proud of yourself.

Extra Tip:
I didn't have that much energy the first couple weeks, with either one, but I did find that just a nice little walk felt great. It doesn't have to be an extreme workout. If all you can manage is a 10 minute walk around the block, then I highly suggest you do it.
